Signup. Variational sections. Styles preview. More usability features.

Posted on February 17, 2015 by songtive

Another Songtive update has just became available. One of the major feature in that update is ability to signup using your email; you don’t need to have Facebook, Google+ or Twitter account to start using Songtive2015-02-17_10-23-04
We added ability to create more than one section of the same section type and Songtive will use them randomly as variations. Take a look at the following song created with variational sections:

Opening up song details you can see the variational sections and another new feature for Songtive Web – styles, solo, drums preview:

And last but not least, we continue improving usability of Songtive. Here you are two useful features:

  1. We added realtime notifications (push notifications). If someone commented your song or remixed it, you will receive soundless notification about that.
  2. If you started creating large song and minimized or terminated app without save, you will be asked to continue your work after the next start of Songtive.

That’s all folks! Songtive for iOS could be download from Apple Store.

Song Remixes. Notifications.

Posted on January 17, 2015 by songtive

We are proud to introduce a new Songtive feature – Remixes. Starting from that update you will be able to take a song then change chords, styles or drum set and publish it. Let’s see how it works!

We are going to change a song All of Me. The original song contains only one style which plays song chords.

Let’s add a cello as another style.

Tap on “Save Remix” and your first remix is ready; check it out how it sounds.

Since our remix has been based on another song you will be able to navigate to that song by tapping on a button “inspired by”. You can even see all song remixes by tapping the icon at the top-right corner and hear how they sound.

Another major feature is notifications. If anyone commented or remixed your song you’ll receive a notification about that at the top-right corner. Tapping notification you will open the song which has been commented or remixed. Notification could be read in the Songtive Web too.

Common Chords, Low Latency Piano in Piano Companion for Android

Posted on December 30, 2014 by songtive

Once we released major update in Piano Companion for iPhone/iPod/iPad, lots of you asked to implement the same functionality for Piano Companion for Android.

Starting with version 4.2, scale details screen has common supported chords. Moreover, it lists main analytical labels: Secondary Dominant and Secondary Leading-Tone to get even deeper overview of the scale. We ported colouring engine from Songtive app so chords are highlighted according to their root note. Take a look at D Minor scale chords:

The same scale chords are integrated into Chord Progressions screen where you can switch specific scale and add a scale chord without switching between multiple screens.

The whole December we were working hard to redesign our audio engine to be used in both products: Songtive and Piano Companion for Android and now we are happy to announce that starting with that version most of issues were finally resolved: fixed static sounds issues, performance issues, distortion sound, issues related to Android 5.0! Let us know if you have an exotic device and still experience issues related to sound, we would be happy to resolve it for you too.

What does it mean for our users? Well, we were able to add multi-touch piano keyboard for chord/scale/circle of fifths details screen. You can tap on a highlighted key and hear how it sounds. Reverse chord/scale lookup screens have playable piano keyboard too.

New engine helps us to implement low-latency Piano screen which in turn allows you to connect USB MIDI keyboard and continue using Piano screen as sound engine. It also resolves most of sync issues for Chord Progression screen.

Piano Companion has scale chords

You Asked – We Listened!

This major update brings to you new engine which displays common supported chords for a selected scale. Moreover, it lists main analytical labels: Secondary Dominant and Secondary Leading-Tone to get even deeper overview of the scale. We ported colouring engine from Songtive app so chords are highlighted according to their root note. Take a look at D Minor scale chords:

Tap on the button to hear how chord sounds and tap on magnifying lens to see chord details. You can also toggle between triad and seventh chords in the top-right corner.

Circle of Fifths is smart enough to detect which mode (sharps or flats) should be enabled automatically (thanks Dr. Deborah R. S.) and it also contains scale chords engine too:

Many of you asked of Chord Progressions screen UI optimisations and we decided to integrate new Scale Chords engine as the first step to simplicity of progression input. You will be able to quickly add common chords into progression without switching between screens.

On that screen you can see that scale chords are available only for a new item (or when chord is not set). You can quickly add any chords by tapping plus icon (see label #2) and change scale from Piano Companion scale dictionary (see label #3).

This update contains major internal rework of UI and more improvements are coming with next update.
